Description
Follistatin is a single-chain gonadal protein known for its specific inhibition of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release. The FST gene produces two isoforms, FST317 and FST344, which contain 317 and 344 amino acids respectively, due to alternative splicing of precursor mRNA. Research involving 37 candidate genes tested for linkage and association with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hyperandrogenemia in 150 families identified a significant linkage between PCOS and follistatin. Follistatin directly binds to activin, acting as an activin antagonist and specifically inhibiting the biosynthesis and secretion of pituitary FSH.
Follistatin Human Recombinant, produced in E. coli, is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain comprising 288 amino acids with a total molecular mass of 31.5 kDa. This recombinant FST is purified using proprietary chromatographic techniques to ensure high purity and efficacy.
